Herb of the Month - Meet Mistletoe! #VERVAINHOTM
Mistletoe (Viscum Album)
What is Mistletoe?
Viscum album is a leathery-leaved, evergreen parasitic plant which grows on host trees, especially apple trees and bears white berries in the winter.
Mistletoe, has a long history of folklore associated with peace, protection and ceremonies. Later on the plant was entrusted to the goddess of love, and kissing under it became mandatory.
Mistletoe Benefits:
Mistletoe is a lovely nervine, meaning it can help encourage a healthy nervous system function and calmness, without being too sedating. Which may ease anxiety. May improve cognitive function
Consent is sexy. Let’s face it, the tradition of having to kiss whoever you’re standing next to if you end up under a mistletoe is a little … outdated. This modern wooden (never dies, never crumbles, doesn’t look weird) interpretation has a nice little reminder on the package that you should only kiss people who want to be kissed. And that high fives are sometimes more appropriate. Gotta spread that pro-consent message any way we can…
