Herb of the Month - Calendula #VERVAINHOTM

Calendula (Calendula Officinalis)

What is Calendula? Pronounced as kuh·lend·yuh·luh Many of us are familiar with this lovely herb. Calendula is a common garden flower and commonly known for the nourishing properties that support the skin. But not everyone is aware of the additional medicinal uses of this plant! Calendula is beneficial for the skin and mucus membranes and has been shown to heal wounds, relieve inflammation, act as a mild antimicrobial, and it may even protect the skin from radiation. It's beneficial for bug bites, itchy skin, scratches, rashes, burns, prevention of scars and supportive for postpartum care. When calendula is consumed internally it has been shown to be nourishing for the body with carotenoids and moving lymph. Calendula's soothing, vulnerary properties have been shown to help heal the gut when taken in tea, broth or food. Enjoy a sprinkle of petals on everything from eggs to your dinner salad.
