We are honored to announce to our community that we have achieved the status of Certified B Corp!
You’ve probably heard the terms “B Corp” and “Benefit Corporation” a lot over the last several years, or maybe it’s new to you. These terms are related but distinct. Both terms refer to business models that emphasize social entrepreneurship and the “triple bottom line”, or the concept that a for-profit business model can improve environmental quality, community health, and worker well-being while also earning profits. Companies with these values can choose to incorporate as a benefit corporation (a legal entity form at the state level), become certified as a Certified B Corporation (a third-party certification), or both! If you want to learn more about how a company can decide which path to follow, check out this article written by Vervain co-owner, Kelsey Jae JD/MPP: Entity Selection for Social Entrepreneurs.
At its core, Vervain is committed to supporting the local economy, sustainable agriculture, our Shop Stewards, and efforts to decolonize plant medicine. We have integrated these commitments into our business practices since the beginning of our venture, and we are always trying to be better. We decided to pursue the status of Certified B Corp to hold ourselves accountable to the high standards of this certification and join a growing community of other leaders in this space. Idaho has several Certified B Corps - how many of these businesses do you interact with regularly? It’s a pretty stellar group to be a part of!
To celebrate, we are throwing a party with our co-hosts, Idaho For Good. Please join us on Thursday April 27 from 4:30-6:30pm at the Vervain/Roots event room at 3308 W. Chinden in Garden City. We’ll be enjoying fun times while sharing some of our achievements and goals for governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. Let’s celebrate!
The Vervain Collective apothecary is open Tues-Sat 9-7, and Sun 11-5! Our online store is open 24/7, and shipping and curbside pickup are available!
We can’t wait to see you!
